The Michigan connection aside, I’ve always lumped Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper together. While the comparison may seem incongruent, consider this: both were founders of their specific genres (punk and shock rock, respectively), they peaked with their earlier output, they successfully catered to the tastes of the day (“Candy” and “Poison”) and both are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2010 and 2011 inductees, respectively).
My point? Both are icons — in the realms of music and pop culture. I can, have and will continue to sing their songs to my children.
