Since the 2013 release of his Primary Perception, Portland, Oregon renaissance man Nick Jaina has busied himself with projects such as serving as music director for a New York City ballet company he co-founded, composing music for multiple ballets and penning a memoir, Get It While You Can, released earlier this year. Returning to his music, Jaina is set to release two new songs as a 7″ single.
Dating back to Primary Perception, Jaina’s new single “Sea of Japan” and b-side “Delta of Venus” draw from personal experiences, the former an irreverent mingling of childhood trauma and a theory of selective evolution, the latter a commissioned ballad of pictures and favorite songs stitched together.
Already sporting a résumé that trumps yours and mine, Jaina’s latest musical accomplishments demonstrate his skills as both storyteller and songsmith. To be released on 16 June via Fluff and Gravy Records, you can stream “Sea of Japan” and “Delta of Venus” below.
